This page explains how MultiGen Law Institute researches, writes, reviews, and corrects the information on this website. Our goal is simple: give people facing American Credit Acceptance accurate, plain-English information they can act on.
How we research
We build our content from primary and authoritative sources:
- Federal and state statutes (for example, the FCRA, the FDCPA, and each state’s version of UCC Article 9).
- Regulator and government resources — the CFPB, the FTC, and state attorneys general.
- Public court records and settlements, such as Sherrard v. American Credit Acceptance LLC (No. 19STCV43101).
- The CFPB Consumer Complaint Database and Better Business Bureau records.
Accuracy and updates
Laws and case law change. We review our core pages periodically and update them when the law or the facts change. If you spot something that looks out of date or wrong, tell us and we will check it.
Fact vs. opinion
We clearly separate established law from our views and from unproven allegations. Where a result depends on the specific facts of a case, we say so and use careful language (“may,” “could,” “borrowers allege”) rather than stating conclusions as proven fact.
This is not legal advice
Everything here is general educational information and self-help material. We are not a law firm and not your attorneys, and using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship. For advice about your situation, consult a licensed attorney in your state.
