About MultiGen Law Institute

Who we are

MultiGen Law Institute is a consumer-education and self-help publisher. We help everyday people harmed by predatory subprime auto lenders and debt collectors — with a specific focus on American Credit Acceptance — understand their rights and take action on their own.

We built this site because the people ACA pursues hardest are often the ones least able to afford a $300-an-hour lawyer. Our job is to put plain-English information and do-it-yourself tools in their hands.

What we are — and what we are not

We are not a law firm. We are not attorneys, and we do not provide legal advice or representation. Nothing on this site creates an attorney-client relationship. We publish general educational information and document templates you can use yourself. For advice about your specific situation, consult a licensed attorney in your state. Laws change and apply differently to each person.

How we are funded

We keep the core information free and fund our work through low-cost self-help kits and guides. We are transparent about it: when we point you to one of our paid resources, it is clearly marked as ours.

Our standards

  • We cite primary sources — statutes, the federal CFPB Consumer Complaint Database, court records, and regulator actions — not rumor.
  • We separate fact from opinion. Where an outcome depends on the facts, we say so and use careful language (“may,” “borrowers allege”) rather than stating conclusions as proven.
  • We review and update our content as laws and case law change. See our Editorial Policy.

The public record on American Credit Acceptance

Our content draws on the public record, including:

  • The $98 million class-action settlement in Sherrard v. American Credit Acceptance LLC, Case No. 19STCV43101 (Los Angeles County Superior Court), over repossession-notice practices.
  • Hundreds of complaints in the CFPB Consumer Complaint Database and the Better Business Bureau.
  • Federal and state consumer-protection law: the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), UCC Article 9, and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
