If American Credit Acceptance or a debt collector is demanding money, your first move should almost never be to pay — it should be to make them prove the debt is valid. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), you have the right to demand validation, and doing so in writing can pause collection and expose errors. Fill in the blanks below and this free tool builds your debt-validation letter instantly. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.

Why send a debt validation letter first
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act gives you the right to make a collector prove a debt before you pay it. If you send a written validation request within 30 days of the collector’s first contact, the collector must stop collection until it mails you validation. Debt buyers and collectors frequently cannot produce a signed contract, an accurate itemized balance, or proof they are licensed — and when they cannot validate, they often go away. Even when the debt is valid, validation gives you the paper trail you need to catch inflated balances, fix credit-reporting errors, and negotiate from a position of strength.
Before you send anything, check the deadline and the rules for your situation: see whether your debt may be too old to enforce with our statute-of-limitations checker, learn how to settle without restarting the clock, and if you have already been sued, read how to answer an American Credit Acceptance lawsuit. The $47 pro-se kit includes this letter and the full set of dispute, cease-and-desist, and Answer templates.
